Steve Jobs announces new Macs
Innovation is Apple Computer's (AAPL) answer to the current lackluster market for personal computers, chief executive Steve Jobs said Wednesday as he announced the release of faster Macintosh desktop omputers. Dressed in a trademark long-sleeve T-shirt and faded jeans, Jobs unveiled the new products during a two-hour-plus speech that kicked off the Macworld trade show. The announcements included an improved version of Apple's operating system and 10 new software titles designed for it. They came a day after the Cupertino, Calif., computer maker announced a 70 percent drop in third-quarter profits. The new products weren't enough to keep Apple's stock price from plunging 17 percent over concerns about its revenue forecasts for the remainder of the year. Unveiling Apple's fastest computers to date, Jobs introduced the latest generation of PowerMac G4 desktops, redesigned with faster processors and a gray, vaguely robotic-looking case. (AP)
