Ditto to all Bill's points...
The OmniSky option gives you a web browser, and you can run a telent session off your "palm" - if desired.
Maybe you should look into a cell phone/modem card for a laptop (pricey, probably the "ultimate" option)

Actually, it uses the CDPD (cellular data/packet data) networks that
the cellphones use as well.
I had a VII for about a week. Took it back (this was when they
were $450+). Neat, but you're limited to the "web clipping"
apps (its not TRUE internet access; its all proxied), and the
quality of the unit (with its wimpy flip-up antenna) just wasnt
what I expected for $450.
Plus, $50/month was more than what I was paying for broadband
internet at home at the time.
