[geeks] video out

A lot of video cards (and notebook computers) have video out ports these
days.  Are they anygood for laying video to tape?  What are the problems?

I know it is a less than ideal idea, but I'm thinking of putting together
a machine on the cheap for really low end video editing(picked up
$8dollar capture card that should be semi-sorta decent, for non pro
stuff), and am wondering if this would be a workable method for outputing
video, or if it is bad enough that I should just give up (because spending
more than a few bucks isn't a good idea right now).
