[geeks] Forcing an interface on Linux and FreeBSD

[Big Endian]

I'm getting large amounts of problems working with a new switch and 
some intel nics (pro/100+).  These are on linux and freebsd and I 
have had no luck being able to force them to 100/full via ifconfig 
and there doesn't seem to be a sysctl for it either.  Any ideas?
