Technically, composite video (at least in the form of most US tv sets,
camcorders, and DVD players) is YC send down one cable (S-Video is also
YC, but the Y and C are on seperate chanels).

Anyway, YC takes the full color signal and splits it into luminessence, then
the blue difference from luminessence (sometimes called Cb, sometimes Pb) and
the red difference from luminessence (sometimes called Cr, sometimes Pr).
These are the signals used for component gear to my understanding, but the ads
are conflicting, which always makes one wonder if the ads are over simplifying,
or is my understanding wrong. But because the ads don't tend to be consistant
with each other, I'm thinking that they are over simplifying.

Note, YCbCr (or YPrPb) is not quite the same as YUV.

Anyway, YC is a YCbCr signal, with the Cb and Cr chanels combined somehow into
one.

Disclamer: This is my understanding. It could be flawed, but I have been
spending a long time working to understand video technology, film technology,
and the science (and art) of imagery of many sorts.
