I have one of the APEX 600A players.  Not one of the ones with
the region-free, and I haven't hacked it to do so =)

It plays CDs full of MP3s, although I am heading towards Vorbis now =)

I've only found one real problem disk, The Saint.  It seems to do the
interlacing wrong... tough to describe.  The APEX players have been
around long enough now that newer models/ROMs correct most of the
minor problems some had with weird disks.  And I like the fact that
they include extras like S-Video, Component(RGB) video and digital audio
out.

And they are mega-cheap. =)
