I'll tear apart your questions and answer them one-by-one...

Yeah, we saved money ;^) More info below...

Trivial, but not neccessary - if we can get by with one, two is more than we
need...
> Unless there's really no use for public connectivity.
There is *minimal* need for outside resources - we have a trivial web
server/FTP installation, as well as a large need for email service. Our only
business reasons for access to the internet is to either check up on
competition, or to verufy that FedEx shipments were recieved.

See above - we develop and maintain IVR Systems in support of clinical
drug trials for major pharmaceutical companies from around the world. The
most advanced thing we currently offer is web-based reporting for a few
of the IVR Systems we maintain.
IVR = Interactive Voice Response (actually we use touch-tones, but that is
what they are called)
Beyond basic IT needs (software downloads), business intelligence, and
shipment confirmation, the internet offers us very little.
> Personally, I rarely use hardcopy references anymore.
We are essentially paper-less, but this has nothing to do with internet
access.
Word documents don't need to be on a web server to be accessible internally.

These were all reasonable questions, and I am happy to take the time to
respond (in case the format of my answers *seems* like I am being snippy, I
am not!)
