No it's not. The reason for underwear, from what I've heard, was that
once upon a time, when people bathed far less frequently than they do
now, it was important to maintain a layer of something between your body
and your clothes (which were laundered far less frequently that they are
now).

forseeable future. I bathe regularly and launder my clothes.
