[geeks] Update on DNS/cable modem issues

As I write this I am offline. I went and got the new Terayon modem
from Shaw, and since a little after midnight I have been offline. My
modem's 'guide', a four page thing that tells me how to install the
modem(ironically it is wrong in several respects) and the last page
tells me error codes based on blinking. In this respect, I know my
modem cannot get a signal, or so the manual tells me. 

So, my old modem would knock me offline for a few minutes every
couple of days and would occasionally lose signal for 10 minutes at a
time every month or two. The new modem has put me offline for more
then two hours, and the best Shaw can tell me is that their message
service will inform the tech support dept. in the morning and call me
back on the number I called from. I would love to see how they plan
to call the payphone a block away, or even how they would expect to
reach me if it were even possible for a call to get through. I
mentioned this and she said that she was only following procedure.
Dumbass.

I have now decided that the new modem was not worth the time and
effort. Had I known the results of switching modems, I would have
just said fuck it and lived through the problems. The one and only
good thing for this is that I am now given a stress and distraction
free time to catch up on the 300+ list posts for today. When I got
home from getting the modem, I had 344 new messages in this folder
alone, now I have whittled that down to 200. Whew. you people sure
like to make up for a quiet weekend, don't you?
