So, last June my division changed ownership from $OLD_COMPANY to
$NEW_COMPANY. I am fortunate in that my department is (so far)
pretty irreplaceable (since we work with that yoonix stuf).
So, policy change came down this month. The cell phones that we
are required to carry as part of our jobs is no longer going to
be handled via one big company contract. Now, we have to get our
own phones and expense it. Oh and $NEW_COMPANY will pay up to
$50/month. So, now instead of one person in our division dealing
with Sprint, the center in Florida will deal with 100 or so
expense reports. Much more efficient, really.
Anyway, enough about the suits.
Well, since we get to choose, I've gone with Verizon. Much better
coverage, much better signal.
And my phone, Kyocera Smartphone. Second generation of Qualcomm's old
Palm Phone. $250 - $150 rebate. I already had a palm, but I couldn't
see paying more for a phone with less features. The thing that really
sold me though is that data access just comes off your minutes plan.
And my plan has 4000 Nights & Weekends minutes =)
So, essentially, I've got a wireless data connection that $NEW_COMPANY
is paying for. I'm so psyched.
And the phone itself, while a little big for a cell phone, is nice.
Works well, and the people who made it actually put some thought and
effort into integrating the PDA with the phone. I'm very happy.
So, in my travels, I found Top Gun SSH. It's only SSH v1, but I can
SSH from my PHONE into any server I want to. Sure, it's not VERY useful,
but in a pinch, it's sweet to know I can do it =)
No, I'm not writing this via the phone, are you crazy? =)
