Oh totally!  If you're going to be putting another axle in there and
reworking the entire suspension, extending the frame rails is trivial -
and so is extending the sheet metal of a bed.  Any half-decent auto-body
guy can do it with rudimentary tols...

AFAIK, the Xterra is of unibody construction - that makes it more
difficult, but not impossible to do.
