I stuffed a jack adapter into the PSU port, ran a couple copper leads 
off of it, and touched a wire welder to the leads.  Some magic smoke 
did escape, but no visible damage...

And to be sure things were truly broken, I rapped smartly on the hard 
drive with a rubber mallet.
