If you must do this, just find a place that will sell you a cheap Athlon
system based on a name brand mobo. Shouldn't cost more than $250-$300
for case, CPU, mobo, ram, the basics. Then toss in either a Geforce3 or
Geforce4 depending on you level of dedication and funds.
Finally, if you are picky about sound, put in a cheap sound card. And
if you care, insert a scsi card and HD, otherwise go with IDE. All
told, you shouldn't spend more than $4-$500, and if you have enough
spare parts, possibly less.
