Ahem. IDE is used in numerous fast disk subsystems[1]. For $5k, I
can buy a 320gb array that can sustain 130megs/sec and offers hotswap
reliability via raid3[2]. For $7.9k, I can bump that up to 260megs/sec
sustained. And you don't need any fancy video controllers either.
I still refuse to buy such an item on the principle that it uses IDE,
and besides I don't have $5k to spare.

[1] Fast here refers to high sustained bandwidth, not to latency since
the reviews tend to ignore that.
