I guess when I was programming in Java, cross-platform wasn't a real big
thing. I never tried to run any Java apps on a different platform. I
don't know if anyone else remembers Corel's breif attempt to port
WordPerfect to Java. They had a demo on their website for a while many
years ago. It took me over an hour to download it and when you ran it,
it was horrible.

I think my preference was Java because I took C for 3 months (2hrs/day),
then took C++ for the same amount, then took Java. I think it took me
until we got to Java to really GET low level (yes, yes, I know, they
aren't low level, but they are a hell of a lot lower than VB and
PowerBuilder) languages. I would like to re-learn C, C++ and Java, but
just like everyone on this list, what little free time I have, is
already spoken for. Maybe once I start looking at renderbitch (I
downloaded the source last week), I will get into it again. But right
now it is too damn hot here to work (no AC at home).
