I have been playing with MainFrames/PC/Computers for 25+ years now and I can
honestly say
that the stuff we get now a days is COOL, but does not last.  I look at my
PPro 200 Dual CPu
that I installed BSDI Unix on in 1997. It is still running and working.
(How many
1000's of Ppro DUAL CPUS are forsale on ebay? Tons...)  Simple I just bought
12 spare
cpu fans, and 6 spare PS FANS.  every year I change out the fans and voila.
Can of DUST IT
and nice and clean.  These fuckers will run forever.  That is good pc shit.

Fast Forward to today I see sun stuff from 15 years ago still working...how
they hell does this stuff
last...I almost NEVER get a call from a customer running simple sun stuff
like Ultra 1/2/30/60 NETRA
E220R E450.  But the amount of noise that I get from PC's / GATES is just
mind blowing.

I would guess that some of the more higher end stuff can be a little
expensive E10K V880 STARFLUKE 9000, etc to keep going but basic  SUN stuff
just seems to work.

However SUN is not alone at make CRAP HARDWARE, I point out the U10. This is
the most
ugly attempt at making SUN KIT that I have seen. I thought that the U5 was
bad but the U5 keeps
on Running whilst I have replaced 3 U10's in the last month.  U5 IDE but
seems reliable.
I guess that is why we see TONS of U10's for sale on EBAY as SUN hobbiest
DUMP them
by the truck load.

VOTE HERE FOR YOUR WORST SUN KIT.....

ps: since all sgi stuff us just too kewl (i do not own any sgi stuff any
more) it can be excluded.
pps: About 3 months ago I decided it made more sense for me to have hardware
with interchangeable parts
as if a customer called me I would always have a spare of some sort.
