FedEx ground to Canada was very smooth the last time I used it.  USPS
Priority is also incredibly well implemented across borders with
friendly nations.  G. Yasko sent me a package from Japan a few months
ago via, um, International Express Mail or something - and it got here
in three days.  Huge turnaround from about a year ago when it took 6
weeks for me to ship a package to Nagano City (in .jp).

Either one works incredibly well...
