AO-7 was the 7th satellite launched by the Amateur Radio Satellite
organization. It provided (and provides for the moment) satellite
communication for ham radio operators.

For reasons unknown, the satellite has suddenly started operating and
repeating signals in its uplink passband again. It is currently only
operating when in daylight, since its only means of power is its onboard
solar cells.

look at http://www.amsat.org/amsat/sats/n7hpr/history.html under
Amsat-Oscar 7 for more details about the satellite.
