Not completely underground - more like Uncle Owen's place from Star 
Wars.  I think 8 feet is the constant temperature point.

This makes me lust for a pointy mountain peak somewhere that I can cover 
with solar panels and windmills.  (Somehow that just sounded way wrong 
to my ears... *grin*)
