This is the first time I've seen this in print. Seen it a lot in practice.
Is this true of win2k also? Or is this just an NT thing?

Depends (heh).  All of the Windows boxes I manage are W2K.  Some are are
restarted monthly (more or less) as we install this or tweak that.  The
uptime champ here (quick browse) is 137 days.  That's an Oracle Server, but
it's not really a 'production' box, so she's not doing much.
