I'm not a developer, so I only have a basic understanding of what you
mean, but it all makes sense to me.  I've seen some very ugly code
recently, chock full of shit that even *I* know slows things down.  Some
of it written by people that I work with, people that should know
better...

I agree.  I really think a lot of software out there is written very
poorly, and truly needs work.
