Here is a little fuel for the fire.....
I am diverging from the chain-pie discussion to one of pizza nationality.
Specifically, Greek Pizza vs. Italian Pizza.
I don't know about the rest of the world, but in New England all the
"Italian" pizza joints are actually Greek owned and the pizza tastes
different (sucks, in other words). The difference seems to be this; Italian
pizza has a strong tomato and hint-of-oregano bite whereas Greek pizza has
an olive-oil influence and no noticeable tomato/oregano flavor. Basically,
its all in the sauce.
If you need an example of an Italian pizza, check out a chain called Pappa
Gino's (awesome non-chainish pizza). I think its a NE only chain, though.
My wife and I have been on a quest to find a proper Italian pizza in the
Concord, NH and New London, NH areas. We have had some success, but the
majority is Greek, as in most of New England.
Has anyone else noticed this form of pizza abuse?
