Maybe, simply, they wanted to add the RAM to the current coverage for a
supported system. I personally think it is nice that they are
interested in what happens to their machines after they go out the
door.. Bit then, I was never really bothered y Radio Shack asking for
my name/address for each purchase...

If your system comes up as stolen (another reason to check/ask serial
numbers), what would you do then?

In the big scheme of things, it probably wasn't going to ship until
Monday anyway...

Kinda harsh... It is only unusual, IMHO - far from the biggest problem
I deal with on a regular basis... Of course, YMMV...
