There are a growing number of exceptions.  Like say all the studios
switching from Irix to Linux.  Or the Ohio Supercomputer Center's new
Linux visualization cluster (saw a really great presentation on it
Thursday). 

I would imagine a lot of engineering firms are interested in linux for
CAD systems, but I can't say for sure since that's not my area.

After all, not all the world is a server. :)
