Well, there's actually several elements of apparent illogic here. The
first is that you cite above. The second is the idea that criminals
(who are, by definition, people who do not obey laws) will obey laws
that make it harder and more dangerous for them to continue their way of
life. And the third is the idea that a criminal who's bright enough to
figure out how to rob a convenience store or mug an old lady using a gun
can't figure out how to do the same with a baseball bat.
However, the key word is "apparent". These things are only illogical if
you assume that criminals are the target of the laws. They're not.
It's not about reducing crime. It's about getting rid of the guns.
Because, in the words of Suizanne Gratia Hupp as she testified before
Congress (and speaking specifically to Upchuck Schemer, D-NY):
"The Second Amendment isn't about protecting ourselves against
criminals. It's about all of US protecting ourselves from all of YOU."
