I just want to emphasize that since retailers are ALREADY tax
collectors (in most states) this doesn't have to mean an increase
in their costs to collect taxes. They would just collect a larger
percentage than they do now, and presumably some items would
remain untaxed as they are now in certain places. (I don't pay sales
tax on groceries in my locale, but the grocery store sells items
besides groceries that ARE taxed, and the register has them flagged
appropriately and taxes the taxable items.)
