I would think about shelling out the extra 15 bucks or so for a NEC 8X
Dual layer +-RW drive.

I've had some problems with my Lite-On LDW-451S (I think thats the model)
Its a 4x +-RW burner, with a Mediatek chipset.. Mediatek has problems with
certain media, like it *requires* the firmware to have the mediacode
listed in its tables to be able to burn to the media reliably..
I have had great success with my Pioneer DVR-107D (8x single layer). A friend
of mine has the NEC 8x dual layer, and has no complaints..
