We did use a lot of 'commercial' vehicles for chores around base, and I
did drive a chevy pick-em-up truck (with military bits attached, and
camo paint) for one long summer in Okinawa. The bracket on the floor
meant for the NBC over-pressure widget was a great place to lash my
boombox.
No gun mounts or armor plate, sadly.
