Quite a full thread. I second whoever mentioned the HP 4000 series. We
have a 4000tn in both my research lab and the unix lab here at school,
and they rarely complain. Both are networked and managed through CUPS
and I've never had a problem printing non-standard formats. Diagrams
look great and text is crystal clear. The optional duplexing option is
sweet. I keep seeing them pop up on e-bay and the like for very
reasonable prices. I'm very much considering getting one myself
when/if I need a personal printer.
