Interesting.
Does your Intel system have a PCIe system bus? I don't mean expansion
(mezzanine), I mean the motherboard's I/O bus.
PCs are starting to get a lot better in I/O handling.
AMD64 systems use HyperTransport, but Intel is supposedly going to go
with PCIe as the interconnect fabric as well as the expansion bus (it's
designed for that after all).
I assume AMD is going to move forward by increasing the use of
HyperTransport and integrate it with PCIe.
I wonder if Apple moved to Intel to keep from having to pay for the use
of HyperTransport? I assume they had to pay AMD royalties for every
Apple G5 system sold.
Of course, I would find it hard to believe that Intel would give them a
better deal, unless they really wanted this badly.
