ah, but if you go back to the roman calendar - where new year's was
the ides [15th] of march - october -is- the eighth month...  even when
new year's was moved to april 1st - up to the gregorian reform - it
still was.  [it was after the gregorian calendar was introduced that
people who stuck to the old one were called 'april fools']
