It is rather silly, but you can raise venture capital with Linux on
anything far faster and easier than *BSD. It seems silly to me because
from an investment point of view, *BSD's "aristic license" makes
a lot more sense than the GPL.
For those on this list that do not read my blog, There is a company that
developed a popular open source application and the released it under
the GPL. Most of the development of the application has been done by
people who expected their code to remain "free".
The company sold several nonGPL source licenses to "their" program.
I predict that any day now, someone will get really pissed off that they
are making a lot of money selling code that was donated under the
understanding that it was GPL'ed and stayed GPL'ed and sue them.
Once they are sued, they will go under due to legal fees. IMHO, rightly
so.
I've been trying to get people interested in a proprietary replacement
that will be 100% developed and tested by people paid a fair wage.
So far, no interest. :-(
Geoff.
