I spent some time last night discussing provisional patents with a patent
agent and doing some research on the US patent office website.
There really is no specific format for a provisional patent, except that it
must include a cover sheet identifying the inventors, and whom to contact,
plus have one claim.
Drawings are always good, but not needed. Any prior publication must be
cited and included.
I was supposed to meet with her today to discuss a boilerplate application
I could use and send out to people who needed them, but the meeting did not
happen.
So far, I've written two of them, and hopefully in a few days will have
the details worked out so that I can submit them. All I need is to find
the money. :-(
The next step is to through my blog, and see what things I've described
that I can patent and sell. :-) Blog entries are a problem as the date
a real patent application must be filed by is the earliest of the date of
first publication or filing of the provisional patent.
Geoff.
