If you got the machine from one of the major server vendors (HP, Dell,
Sun, IBM, etc) the machine's serial number should already be hard-coded
in DMI.

"White box" machines (ie built from parts bought off NewEgg or a
SuperMicro, Tyan, Asus, etc barebones) won't necessarily have that option.
