Sorry, I'm young enough (53) that solid state amps without switching noise
were available by my late teens when I could afford them.

When I was 19, I built a Dynaco tranistorized amp kit that could produce
it's full rated power into a dead short forever with far less distortion
than an tube amp.

All tube amps have distortion, it's inherent in their design. Most people
can't hear it or are used to it or think it sounds "warm".

Didn't Mr. Bill have some sort of effect unit for sale a while back
that added "tube sound"?
