Remember that after commoditization comes differentiation. Once upon
a time the only color car you could buy was black; but after the
market grew, you could choose your color.
Since Target can buy and sell the same cheap Chinese crap that WMT
has at the same price, and has nicer stores, which will people
naturally prefer to shop at?
Costco is a warehouse store, and they pay good wages to their people,
and get better quality employees as a result - guess what?
The upper middle class Costco shoppers like dealing with those
employees more than the mouth-breathers at other warehouses.
WalMart cannot stay at the bottom rung forever if they want to have
better profit margins. Home Depot tried it, and then Lowes came
along and kicked them and took their lunch money.
