No, you can upgrade to 2x 1 gig DIMMs for $89, and the chassis has 8 DIMM
sockets...
Rails, in true dell fashion, are $250 though ;(

I don't know how hard Dell enforces working configurations, but if
you try to configure the dual dual Opteron SC1435, you are told that
you must buy a 4 DIMM memory upgrade. The cheapest of them is $119,
driving your price to $818, which still is good, but that seems a bit
deceptive.
If only I had the cash. Actually, if I did, I still would probably
feel compelled to purchase a workstation instead of a server.
