MX records leading to a few hops of uucp definately worked. I had
gilly.uucp, but I don't remember that details of how well that
worked, as opposed to dave%gilly at someone-upstream.com...

Ah, speaking of the early 90s uucpnet days... the two quotes I'm
famous for from that period are that vi/emacs quote in your sig,
and the September 1993 thing.
