Different layer of abstraction. The physical representation of the
datastream is very different (SATA and SAS are LVDS serial links, SCSI
is a parallel bus), but the datastreams themselves are very, very
similar because the SAS/SATA folks took a look at the SCSI command set
and said "hey, that works really well."
