Actually, to look at this a slightly different way:  Intel's
performance/watt advantage over AMD is attributable basically to the
fact that they have had a lead in smaller process technology, which is a
 lead that (by reports) they're about to lose when AMD's new fabs come
on line.  Meanwhile, on interconnect technology they've caught up to
where AMD was in, say, 2001.
