I found a nice desk/workbench at a University surplus sale - it is about 30" deep, 72" wide, has two overhead compartments and a formica top. It looks like soemthing you'd find in a cubicle farm, but without the cubicle sides/backing (it is free standing).
It was very reasonable, but also I was lucky to find it...
Do you have any University surplus sales/surplus office furniture stores? That would be the best option, I would think.
