If you have any way of changing the mode of your SATA controller in the
BIOS away from AHCI (if it's on AHCI), to something like IDE or if you
have a PATA emulation option, you should try that.

While AHCI has some nice features like higher speeds, hot-plugging and
native command queuing, there seem to be issues with it enabled and SATA
optical drives.
