Well, at least if you have the batteries (dead or alive), you should have the cables that some posters were warning you not to be without.  Most (old) UPSs that I've seen use gel batteries and the cables are just short cables with the female tongue connectors on them.  The only problem if they were missing is how the batteries were hooked up! (Some did a weird parallel-series setup)  At least the price was decent. :)
