[geeks] Photo "sharing" site recemondations please.

There are good upload tools for Gallery2.  I use a free export tool for 
iPhoto.  Gallery2 also integrates with some online photo printing 
services, too.

There are pluses and minuses to "well known".  If you want to sell your 
own stuff it'll be easier from your own site, and you'll be branding 
yourself, which is also important.  You have less risk of people trying 
to rip off your stuff since you won't have the rabble trolling your site 
to see if you've mistakenly applied a CC license to your photos.  And 
even if you do want to use a CC license on your photos, you can make 
your licensing clear from the beginning rather than having it somewhat 
hidden as it is on Flickr.

I also think having your own site makes it easier if you want to include 
your family and/or put more granularity on permissions.  I've set up 
individual users on my site for my family so they can upload things. 
The default settings are such that all family members can see the rest 
of the family's photos.  If someone wants to change that, it's 
straightforward to do.

My family would never use something like Flickr--they aren't savvy 
enough, nor trusting in that kind of thing.  Something run by me, 
though, they are willing to at least try.

And there's nothing to prevent you from posting a few of your photos on 
Flickr to get the exposure, but direct people to your own website.
