Are you talking about NeWS, which was based on PostScript and was
separate from X11, or about the X11 server extension Display PostScript
, sometimes called DPS/X?
Even the Sun3 had NeWS. NeWS was written by James Gosling, author of
Gosling Emacs, the Andrews integrated apps, Java, etc.
