progress: found a loose 14.13MHz xtal and resoldered it and now it
responds to the power button normally; leds come on, hd and cdrom leds
blink, and fans spin up, so at least the watchdog chip is working now.
still no video or sign of life from the cpu, wither the original or my
ebay one.
