I've never driven a classic jeep, but I have tooled around in a HMMWV.
It weighs 4x more but comes with some advantages; more room for cargo
and pax, has the ability to drive in up to 6 feet of water [1], can
climb walls (IIRC) up to four feet high.

One disadvantage (imho) is that the hood is made of fiberglass - can't
sit on it to keep warm.

The Marines do keep (or did keep) jeeps around, but they're reserved for
Recon Ricky operations not driving around in the woods.


[1] With a fording kit.  This is not comfortable or dry way to travel.
