The reasons we didn't twenty years ago are more political than technical
- and many of the technical issues have been solved. It's at the point
where they are talking seriously about designing sealed-for-20-years
nuclear powerplants in a box for the third world. When they run out of
fuel, swap out the entire box and send it back for servicing and refueling.
If we can put nuclear power stations in Gabon and Myanmar and ... uh ...
that country next to India whose name I'm blanking on right at the
moment that's always either flooding or starving, why can't we put any
more in Massachusetts or Minnesota or California? It's the curse of the
NIMBY. Everyone wants cheap power, but don't you build the plant in MY
town.
