How many geek points do I get for actually having used an SEM?
The stuff I was looking at was quite big (plankton fossils), but I
know on the stuff I was looking at they had to coat it in gold atoms
(because calcite doesn't conduct electricity or whatever it has to
do), so I don't think SEM (or at least not the one I used) can get
down to atomic level. 1nm sounds about right, the stuff e were looking
at was about pinpoint size dust and we could study the surface in very
high levels of detail. It was certainly pretty fascinating.
As for destroying hard drives, glass platters + big hammer = not
readily recoverable :o) !
