If the sensor has to be wireless: Some Atmel microcontoler + ZigBee.

It gets hard if you can't fit an electrical gauge. Is the existing analog
gauge just a manometer? If you can't modify it you have only one chance: read
it optically. Either by a video camera, or you may fit lots of small
reflected-light barriers that sense the position of the indicator of the
analog gauge.
